I guess I can still be called a newbie - but this is to all new collectors, read and learn! I am English born, and when I was a child (I'm 61 now) I would visit my grandmother. On her table would be this green bowl, I was under strict orders not to touch, but, well, I would lick my finger and touch the bowl, the frosting would clear until my "licking" dried. I was fascinated. When she passed away, the bowl went to my mother. She knew how much I liked it, so she gave it to me. It sat on my table for a long time (my son was more obedient that I ever was!) Then one day I did the dumb thing - I put it in the dishwasher!!!!!!! I learnt the hard way - old glassware doesn't like the dishwasher. It didn't break - but has a crack halfway around the inside. I sometimes wish it had broken - but I look at it and remember. Nanny came from "good stock" so I know it was a good piece. So people - there you have it. If it doesn't say "dishwasher safe" then its not! If it DOES say "dishwasher safe" - then its not antique!!!!!
