I don't know if a box I found is for pistols or other.
I had posted on another group here, antique furniture.
I would definetly appreciate your having a look at it... we still don't know the use -- it has a strage two compartment configuration, sort of rules out most writing desks,
we've had medical collectors tell us it is not surgical, from cleanliness and general appearance not a little tool box, or artist's box (no stains whatsoever)

yet it is from circa 1740-80's from construction, materials and all other indications, is American almost definetly (native woods and construction type)

right around the time duelling pistols were in vogue.
can you help identify?
