The Trinity area you mentioned on your site is probably the biggest concentration. Also called "The Design District," two big events here are Slocum Street Style (September) and Design on Dragon (November). The respective streets, lined with antique shops, art galleries and design showrooms, block off car traffic for a night and throw open their doors for the general public. Most serve refreshments, have contests, specials, etc. They're hugely popular, as they allow the public a chance to visit a lot of places that are to-the-trade only. The Uptown area is home to many antique dealers, and there is also a small concentration of them on Henderson Avenue. We (Heritage) often work with Brant Laird's Consignment Heaven over there--he's a good guy, we trade referrals with him often.

That dealer's comment about Dallas buyers going for a look is true more often that we'd like to admit, and not just when it comes to antiques. You'll find that we are frequently characterized as being more about style than substance! I can't pinpoint the source of Dallasites' favoritism for European material, but it certainly fits with the popular architecture of the area--not too many Cape Cod saltboxes around here. When the wealthy build houses, Mediterranean villas and French chateaux are all the rage. The celebration and preservation of mid-century modern homes has only recently taken root here. Stop by our gallery when you get a chance, would love to meet you!
