A late 19th century Japanese Satsuma pottery vase of the Meiji period (1868 - 1911).

An excellent quality vase with four panels of scenes depicting Japanese culture. The decorated panels show a group of Samurai warriors, seven Japanese ladies in traditional dress, three deity and a group of people overlooking a lake. The vase is signed underneath with a Japanese symbol, which comprises of a square with a worn away character in the centre and below, a painted gilt circle with a cross in the centre.

The condition of this vase is excellent, with no cracks or chips at all. The only visible signs of age are the rubbing of the gilt makers mark on the base and some age spots on the inside of the top rim. The painted decoration is fully intact, with no distortion or rubbing at all. (Circa 1890)
