Great Button from American Politics -

Vintage 1 3/4" diameter pinback that says "Sock it to 'em Spiro". These are interesting. They were made in 1968 by AAA novelty in Washington D.C. and are a reference to a 1968 cameo appearances of Richard Nixon on the Laugh In show which aired just before the general election. Richard Nixon deadpanned, "Sock it to me?" on the show. Many credit that appearance on Laugh-In as pushing Nixon over the top to get elected to the presidency. His opponent Hubert H. Humphrey declined the invitation. Spiro, of course, refers to Spiro Agnew, who was running with Nixon as his Vice President.

NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR SUMMER 2013

The American Political Items Collectors announces their annual search for applicants to the APIC Mark Jacobs Smithsonian Institution Internship. The APIC sponsors the selected recipient to a 6-week internship at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. offering the opportunity to work and learn with the Curator at the National Museum's Political History Division. The winning applicant will be provided residency at the George Washington University along with a weekly stipend.

The internship is open to graduating high school students, full-time college students, or graduate students. This is a great opportunity for anyone majoring in Political Science or U.S. Political History.  An overall good character is required.

January 10th, 2013 is the deadline for applications for the summer 2013 internship program.

If you're giving a gift to an Obama junkie, why not frame one of those ubiquitous, famous Obama "Hope" posters? Like all political memorabilia from seminal elections, it will be quite valuable someday. Think about how cool it would be to own a Kennedy one - or one from either of the Roosevelts! Again: a great eventual-heirloom.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/lesley-m-m-blume/10-whimsical-recessi...
