I Antique Online

A Community For People Who Buy, Sell or Collect Antiques, Collectibles and Art

I recently purchased some paining /prints that caught my eye and know nothing about . On the back I can make out the name BARETTA  I believe  and other markings I can not not make out. I’ve had little to no info from my research  and was hoping my friends on this site might be able to help. Any help at all is much appreciated . Thank you John

What kind of paper would you say this is? It appears to be black, with a thickness to it?

are the white spots seen in the picture paint loss or chips off of the paper?

The image might be done with chalk, conte crayon or pastels. If you rub a spot with your finger, do you have any residue from the picture?

The subject matter would probably be called "Allegorical" Meaning this portrait is of one of the many Goddesses, from Greek origin, though I don't know which one, off hand. Or possibly an angel.

I can't make out what's on back either, because the background is so dark. If you can lighten the pencil markings in your photo, you might be able to see the letters better. There is an Initial before Barretta, (spelling) I think, that would help you to do a search for this specific artist. There are quite a few Beretta's listed with various spellings, but I don't find any with similar art work.

If your not getting anywhere, you might want to post on Facebook, under the ID my artwork, paintings etc. group. First try to determine the paper and etc. that I mentioned above. Good Luck to you!

second line "pompeii"?
