Found this at a local thrift...looked funky and priced right.  At first,

I thought it was a serving dish of some kind but under closer examination

I believe it could be quite old.

Hopefully, someone can help me identify what it's for.

Looks like some type of alloy and hand made.  

3 legs  7"inches wide

Any clues?

Yep, Molly's got it! It's a vintage Butter dish. The flip-top style was really popular during the 1920 - 1930's art deco era, I've sold a few of those in the past. Does yours have the glass insert?

It should have a little glass dish, that sits inside. The work on yours is kinda crude, so I'd guess it to be 1960-70's India Brass. Cool way to keep your butter bug free this summer! :)
