A William Penn wooden cigar box, 8.5" long, 5.5" wide, 4.75" tall with metal clasp on the lid. Back when cigars were 5¢!

I would like to add a new group icon for this group. Anyone want to send me a picture that we can use?

Pleasse send it to Dianne@cdiannezweig.com.

Also this group needs a new moderator...who will take on the job?

lillian, isn't Santa and Baby New Year toasting with champain the new year?

Comment by Lillian Dunbar on December 22, 2011 at 7:11am

This is a label from a cigar box. It may have been cutesy decades ago, but now it probably would offend some people - Santa drinking wine with a minimally clad, chubby Baby New Year.

Deanna - I believe your pipe is earlier, reason being is that this would have been a communal pipe. Men would carry a separate insert and share the smoke. Also the way it is made - can I ask where you got it?

For Lillian - most of these were "Made In Japan" in the 40's and 50's. They are cute and collectible, but I was only able to get $40 for the dog one I had - and it wasn't broken. So, I think ebay might be a good start. Then just goggle "Vintage Cigarette box". You should find lots of examples.
