I Antique Online

A Community For People Who Buy, Sell or Collect Antiques, Collectibles and Art

I found this bowl several months ago, bought for 10 dollars.  Didn't know what it was, actually.  Just loved it.  Yesterday , browsing around I saw a console bowl.  Wa-La.  I wasn't familiar with console bowls.  At closer inspection yesterday, I noticed an inconspicuous mark on bottom, difficult to read, but I believe it says made in Czechoslovakia.  It does have a pontil on bottom and feels hand painted.  that's all I know.

Oh Bonnie, It's beautiful! and a wonderful price too! Just so you know, most buyers and sellers alike would call this a "Rolled Edge Console Bowl" :) I don't know if your aware? but most console bowls also came with candlesticks.

Their original purpose was to be displayed on either a dining room table or a mantle top. Flower frogs often came with them, and one can make amazing arrangements using fresh flowers using those.

I love using mine, and usually put flowers from my garden in them in summer! Yes, that is a common Czech marking. And, it's quite nice that it is a blown glass piece too! Yours would date to our American Depression era. 1930's. Except our glass in this style was never blown, it's always pressed, but "fire polished" so it would "look like blown" glass! That makes yours doubly nice! Super Find! :)

Here is a complete set, American "Elegant Depression glass" I'm not sure on maker, but it looks like Tiffin. One of our better makers of these sets! :)

Here's another, more plain set. This one looks like Cambridge glass to me? Not sure though.

Pretty sure this is another Tiffin - I love these!

I went to my page to try and find this discussion, could not. went thru my emails, back to this one feb 2015, and found it. does our storage of discussions only go back so far, limited?

That is a very good question? I'm afraid I don't know though. Seems like if the link is still here, the discussion should be also, but I don't know for sure, sorry.

Ask Dianne, maybe she would know?

Thank you Vicki for taking the time to answer/acknowledge
