A Note from Your Moderator Barbara E, Mauzy

Calling all lovers and collectors of vintage glassware: join our PYREX discussion, share your expertise, ask your questions, and post your pictures! As the author of the only PYREX book in print I will offer assistance and share my enthusiasm for this vintage glassware that goes from the freezer to the oven. Go green with vintage glass and have fun along the way! PYREX The Unauthorized Collectors’ Guide is in its fourth edition and I have networked for and am working on the fifth edition which will add PYREX Restaurantware. Don’t miss my other eighteen titles!

Barbara,
Dick (I believe the manager) at the Chicken barn is a RWCN friend. Be sure to tell him who you are, and that you're a friend of mine.

Jeff: after you insight regarding S& H Green Stamps I got busy looking through my STACKS of catelogues...all the typical PYREX stuff, including dinnerware, but not a thing on the restaurantware. There had to have been marketing to restaurants...trade papers? Another reason to go to the chicken barn in Ellsworth, ME!

More information about the Pyrex RW Designers Series: This grouping of six patterns was introduced in 1969. It had two groupings of 3 similar patterns in different colors. The first grouping were the "Scroll" patterns, including Sapphire/Aegean, Bronze, and Nile. The second grouping were the "Fleur de lis" patterns including Ebony, Cherry, and Chamagne. These stock patterns are not nearly as available as the one-color stock patterns. And in my opinion Nile is the hardest to find of all of the stock patterns. I even find atleast some of the customized patterns (such as the Bradford House, from W.T. Grants Department Store Chain) more available.

Look for more information like this in the Pyrex RW chapter in a future edition of Barbara's Pyrex book.

The below is a grouping of my favorite Pyrex RW pattern called Sapphire from 1969 to 1973 and then called Aegean until the end of production in 1978. It is a two color stok pattern from the Designs Series. The photo was taken By Barbara Mauzy in 2008, for use in the upcoming Pyrex RW chaper of her Pyrex book.

Hi, just checking in and reading the latest posts before I head to the kitchen. I think we all love PYREX because it's been a part of our American kitchens for generations. If any of you aren't familiar with the reasons why you should keep plastic out of the microwave and away from your food speak up and I'll share some info regarding this. To those of you who found this site via Jeff...WELCOME!!! Barbara
