Hello, another several pieces of some really old English dinnerware.   Pretty brown victorian transfer pattern "WARWICK"  with an Rd No. 295974 and the stamp C.W.S. which research shows may stand for Cooperative Wholesale Society which operated from 1863-1913.   Could anyone shed some light on this, or is there a potter with the initials C.W.S.

Thanks again!

It's not the Cooperative Wholesale Society Ltd, they were only formed in 1946 as a way to jump start the pottery industry in England pre WWII. The began in 1946. I'd have to research further to tell you who this was.

Do you have another or clearer photo of the mark by any chance?

Hi Ruth, Thanks so much for your help.

Maybe this is a little better.

Ruth,

Here are a couple more images of the backstamp.   C.W.   I think that is an

"S" however there is no period after it.

Curious to see what you think.

Thanks so much for your help.

CWS is a major retail organisation in England - fingers into all pies. I remember shopping at the local CWS - and getting paid dividends once a year for doing it. I don't really recall them being major in ceramics. The RD number dates it around 1897. Ebay.co.uk have a lot of warwick china, most of it by Beswick. I learn something new every day!!

Thanks Leanne!  Happy New Year!

2 warwick ware plates are for sale in England for 245 english pounds (approx $400), and their RD number dates them to 1910
