The 11th edition of the Floridiana Festival & Highwaymen Artist Show returns to the St. Petersburg Garden Club, 500 Sunset Drive South, St. Petersburg, on Saturday, November 5, 2011, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
A celebration of Florida's cultural and historical legacies, this annual antiques and collectibles event features an abundance of old roadside attraction kitsch, as well as vintage Florida art and old tropical decor. A special feature of this show is the opportunity to meet and mingle with the Florida Highwaymen Artists, Florida’s legendary African American artists who sold their sea and landscape paintings from the trunks of their cars in the 1960’s and early 1970’s. And, don’t miss the chance to meet some former Weeki Wachee mermaids during a lecture/film presentation on the park of yesteryear.
The kitsch for sale ranges from alligator ashtrays, flamingo figurines, and citrus-shaped radios, to postcards and other fun ephemera from the Sunshine State's old parks and hotels. Enjoy browsing through thousands of old postcards, travel brochures and Florida-related books, or pick up some authentic Florida memorabilia from now defunct tourist attractions. Decorating your home in an “old Florida” style? Lots of vintage rattan and home accessories can be found as well!
