Indicator point to how windsor chair were handmade: some were made by skilled cabnet makers, some were done by craftmen while others were made by people of little skill, folk handymen, slaves, etc.

see this mordern maker (reoriduction chair):

The windsor chair malfunctioning video may be cleared up by some video from Youtube covering this chair. The chair is indeed civil war era. I personally visited the Museum just a few miles from my son's home I Cleona, PA.
We were digital cameras and recorded written data on each display seen.

later chair will certainly look like the older ones but that is to be expected. That is why non-appraiser or those with little interest in chairs often mistake them for chairs created much later.

A quick visit to the library would be quite helpful when evaluating chair builted in early america.

The Youtube video will offer a little more insight to this chair, see the video. addition infor in the form of pictures and text references will also serve you well at this time. Thank for your valued comments.

Rescue, your video of the Windsor chair is malfunctioning. It shuts off mid-sentence and is so short you can't study the chair.
A lot of these chairs were made in the early 1900s. Many have a round medallion in the center of the seat in back giving the name of the manufacturer.
