Our last auction featured a complete estate and WOW was it an excellent sale! There weren't a ton of actual antiques, but the retail crowd showed up in droves and drove the prices through the roof on everything from toys to furniture, pottery, paintings, and more.
The most surprising part of the auction for us was how well the furniture sold. For some time now, trying to sell furniture for what it used to bring has been like kicking a dead horse- not much action happening. This past auction, however, was a complete 180 turn around- furniture was at the forefront of the sale once more!
A few items of note were a large stepback cupboard that sold for $1,350.00, a beautiful tin paneled pie safe bringing upwards of $600, and country dry sinks selling for $400-$500.
Amongst the rest of the ensemble there were many other pieces that held their own quite well. Pflatzgraff pottery was selling good. The tea tins and other advertising tins were flying out the door all night. And, the toys... the toys never fail- they looked superb in our showcase displays and I'm sure they will look even better in the shops and homes of their new owners!
All-in-all September 21st was a fantastic sale for Saco River Auction Company. Keep an eye out for our next auction schedule for this Saturday, September 4th- we've got lots of quality/clean contemporary furniture, oil paintings, watercolors, pottery pieces, some excellent old baseball, football, and tobacco cards and a whole lot more!
