Here are some of the answers to our (TIAS.COM) survey about "What do you collect and why?"
a) ! collect affordable antique jewelry because I can wear it and
enjoy it and share it with others who are interested. Also depression
elegant glass because of the beauty.
b) Cookbooks, I love reading them and looking at the photos and even trying new recopies
d) I collect price guides because the info is priceless even if the
prices are are out of date. Then my favorite is glass and pottery
followed by dozens of other interests.
e) Old toys - Never had many as a kid, really like older toys
f) VINTAGE ELECTRONICS. BEEN IN ELECTRONIC REPAIR FOR MANY YEARS.
g) Lots & lots of stuff, but primarily jewelry! Everything from
cheapo-dime store stuff all the way up to platinum & diamonds.
Whatever strikes my fancy! I think my Grandma got me started with
jewelry, even though I don't remember her well. I do remember she always
had on some rhinestone baubles. Some of the first items in my
collection had belonged to Grandma.
h) Music boxes, they provide good looks with soothing sound.
i) Science Fiction Books. I love to read and to imagine possibilities.
j) I collect....
*rocking chairs - Gram always had a few and they conjure up memories of the terrific person she was.
*chefs - husband, son, nephew and nephew-in-law are chefs. We have about 100 assorted unusual chef figurines and wall hangings
*hummingbirds - I have a somewhat of a spiritual connection with hummingbirds
*nutcrackers - I'm hard to select a gift for, so friends and family
have given me about 60 nutcrackers over the last 15 years or so.
*Uncle Sam figures - because I am a Yankee Doodle Dandy (born on the 4th of July)
k) China, oil lanterns, old tools, old sewing patterns. They are historical and the items are useful.
l) English Art Deco vases with Flower Frog inserts, because my
grandmother had lovely flower gardens and she always used a flower frog.
m) I collect little green rugs with pictures of dead presidents on them because they are affordable.
