I Antique Online

A Community For People Who Buy, Sell or Collect Antiques, Collectibles and Art

I have beenlling on ebay since 1998. I began by listing my Mom's items when she finally had to close her shop due to ill health. Mom just could not walk and lift boxes anymore.. Her pickers kept in touch and and would come to her home and Mom continued to buy ..

Ebay was way for Mom to stay in the b seusiness. We used to love buying and selling on ebay.. I woud call Mom and let her know how much her items sold for, most times selling for up to ten times the asking price! Sadly Mom passed away.. I began listing items for a local Antique Mall and Myself.

Ebay sales began to drop off and we only listed rare items, starting them at our asking price..

We went from listing 20 to 30 items per week to maybe listing 5 items a month if at all, Ebay fees were just too high for the amount of items selling. Ebay prices on many items have begun to drop, bringing down prices of many collectibles.

Ebay then began enticing us back, with free listings every month.. So we began to add listings once again.  Ebay fees have gone up, free listings will cost you in the end with Final Value Fees rising and of course they will only let you accept Paypal payments another fee..  Now ebay is going to charge you a final value fee on the price you charge for shipping. For example you sell a teacup and it costs $9.00 to ship ebay will charge a fee and paypal will charge a fee, so the seller will end up losing money on the shipping.

Ebay also has begun to limit the amount of items a person can list, and the amount of dollars you can sell based on buyers rating you, not the feedback.. A seller can have 100% positive feedback with no complaints, but the ebay rating system ranks you a below standard putting restrictions on your seller account. The seller had no recourse, they can not defend themselves against this rating system.

Ebay is pushing for sellers to offer FREE Shipping, all the while they raise the fees on sellers. Ebay is also pushing for sellers to have an ebay shop, charging monthy fees and offering lower final value fees for opening a shop, in short ebay is getting the money up front by requiring sellers to have a store..

I have investigated other selling venues on the internet, Amazon, Etsy,

I know what you mean about Ebay. I am using it less and less. I prefer Etsy and have been doing quite well.
