Extrusion, a process used to create objects of a fixed cross-sectional profile, allows designers to create complex cross-sectional designs. Although originally patented in 1797, it wasn’t until the late 1800’s and the Industrial Revolution that the process progressed, ultimately becoming a popular process with Mid Century designers like Russell Woodard. The process allows the artist tremendous creativity in the form and function of metals like aluminum. In our Showroom we feature a great example of a Woodard extruded aluminum settee; juxtaposed again the bright white upholstery is the wonderful extruded aluminum pedestal base design.
