RE-PURPOSING BY ANY OTHER NAME WOULD STILL BE ME

Hey there:

Just wanted to weigh in on the newest trend.  I hear the phrase: "I have re-purposed" quite often at antique shows, malls and flea markets. I bet you have too.

Well, new friends, I have to tell you that I am finally in with the "in crowd"! Painting the beat up treasures I have drug home, gluing or nailing weird things together to suit my fancy and keeping things rusty is what I have done for,  umm (not gonna say how many) years. Diving into ally dumpsters, picking from garbage by the side of the road and digging through junk piles has always been my favorite sport. Now, I find it is everyone's favorite sport.

I don't know whether to be happy or a bit miffed.  My family's estimation was that I was just plain crazy and of course, I  loved that it drove them nuts  Now it is the newest rage and all of us old timers are all of a sudden totally in vogue.

The competition for that old ragged piece of shutter or metal is fierce. It is good to be "stylish" but hey I want the old days back.  The days where you never heard the likes of re-purposed or chalk paint or American Pickers for that matter. Oh, don't get me wrong I am not really upset, just a bit tired from thinking of a new theme.  What do you think about Re-loved?  Re-born, Re-invented, Re-found, Re-meant to be?  Just don't say Re-tired..cause I got my Sketchers on and I will be first at the next estate sale, flea market, garage sale or tag sale--you Re-purposers watch out cause this Old Dumpster Diva is now Re-Purposed herself!

LOL Zee, I enjoyed your post.  I am always looking for vintage costume jewelry and when the seller says "I re-purposed this"  my heart sinks.  I think, you have ruined a nice old piece.

There is a lot of "junk" out there but I am with you, I wish there weren't so many other pickers.
