Pre 40;s Pepsi Wood Crate Need Help on this strange crate

I just bought this Old Pepsi Crate Thats of a strange design. Check out my Pics and see if you can help identify it ????? The removable top has Great image at the Beach says " Hits the Spot Down At The Beach" and has cleats and on back of lid has small metal tabs that you could move by openings used to carry crate. BUT the side images are UPSIDE DOWN when crate is Upright ???? I also believe there was something like wood blocks that would have held the lid tight by the metal tabs on edge of lid. When you flip the crate over onto the top resting on the slats the images are correct??? Any info appreciated. I know its before 1939 due to Logo. But exactly when? Thanks Paul
