I Antique Online

A Community For People Who Buy, Sell or Collect Antiques, Collectibles and Art

Collecting cowboys is another sub-niche of Movie Collectibles. You know how you have your collectors who only stockpile Marilyn Monroe items? The same is often true for cowboy collectors. I have one regular customer who buys any movie card I post if the star is shown with a cowboy hat on--whether they're traditionally thought of as a cowboy star or not.

My favorite cowboy collectibles are actually one of the more recent items I regularly handle with a 1973 copyright date, but the stars depicted are the old-time cowboy stars from the 1920s-50s. I'm referring to a beautiful set of 11x16 color prints which come slipped inside of what is technically a book. The book itself only has six pages. It's titled "John Ford Presents Cowboy Kings of Western Fame," but the main attraction of the books are the prints originally done by artist Will Williams. The 24 cowboys included in the set are supposed to represent the 24 favorites that John Ford had worked with throughout his long career.

Recently adding a little more intrigue to this collection to me was discovering one of two sets of postcards reproducing the same paintings with the same John Ford brand. There's also a more valuable collection/book of the prints available which are singed and numbered (by Williams, not Ford).

Anyway, I made a couple of videos about these, recently but at separate times. The first takes a look at the postcards and then soonafter I was lucky enough to acquire another collection of the prints. Hope you enjoy:

The page is in desperate need of a makeover, but if you prefer static images here is my John Ford Cowboy Kings Photo ID Guide.

Thanks, Cliff

Hi Victoria, thanks, mildly. It's a little off the mark from I mainly deal in (movie items), but at the same time I do find historical items interesting. If you want to email with a price and/or images, feel free. Thanks, Cliff
