I Antique Online

A Community For People Who Buy, Sell or Collect Antiques, Collectibles and Art

First off, I'm an independant, and can't decide on any candidate at the moment for President.

Regardless, in the business it seems that most of the Antiques found out there are in the hands of Republicans. The response from advertising on Conservative Republican Radio talk shows have gained us the best audience when it coming to purchasing product from people for resale. I believe its the Republican mentality that keeps their family heirlooms a part of their lives so long.

On the flip side, of those I've talked to in the Antiques business, the lions share of dealers are Democrat or Independant mainly because of their capitolistic nature. Of course there are exceptions to the rule.

Anyone see a trend like this or am I just blowing smoke?

Looking at the at the people in the background during Mc Cains speech after winning the Virginia primary. One can conclude that most Republicans really are antiques. As I deal primarily in "antquities" that is to say reaalllly old stuff.
Most of my buyers are University educated many at a Phd level (unlike myself who barely graduated from High School) as this is a niche market. I am based overseas and can say that most of my international clientle "dress to to the left" when regarding US foreign policy. I suppose it is difficult to really make a broad assumption to the political demographics when it comes from which spectrum of the collecting world will buy/sell whatever. On a more specific level I would say people who but high end traditional/heritage i.e."Americana" collectibles, militaria, possibly stamps are probably more likely to be Republican, while people who collect Cultural Artifacts and Ethnographic (my specialty) items are more likely to be Democrats, having a more internationalist perspective. It would be interesting to see which way coin dealers swing.
