I Antique Online

A Community For People Who Buy, Sell or Collect Antiques, Collectibles and Art

Hi, I’m Lauren and I am an antique carnival glass addict. I am so glad that I found http://www.iantiqueonline.com so I can meet other people that love carnival glass just as much as I do!

Please allow me to share a little history about carnival glass:

What some people may not know is that carnival glass really did originate at carnivals. It first appeared at carnivals back in the early 1900’s. In 1908, Fenton and Northwood created the first pieces. Carnival glass was given away as a prize at the carnival. It’s too bad we cannot win carnival glass these days because I think it’s much better than a stuffed animal!

Carnival glass comes in many different shapes, styles and patterns. The most impressive thing about carnival glass is its beautiful iridescent coloring. You may easily find carnival glass pieces in green, bright blue, and purple. Red and certain pastel colors such as peach are much harder to find. The glass also comes in many different patterns. Some of the more common patterns are the “grape and cable” pattern and the “hobnail” pattern.

Some rare pieces of carnival glass may demand a high price tag. However, there is plenty of carnival glass that is priced very reasonable. I have not had a problem finding beautiful pieces that were extremely affordable. Next time you are at a garage sale or out antique hunting, be sure to see if you can spot some carnival glass. It’s a classic and lovely way to accent your home.
