Doll Repair - a Hard to Find art.

Please list any or all Doll Repair contacts you might have.
We've had many antique German style dolls come through the store here and of course, condition is everything. When there are bisque pieces everywhere either because of age or just from a little one being rough with and antique, what is the most important thing to prepare for preservation and possible repair? We all know the doll heads by themselves can sometimes bring a good buck here and there, but if you have tattered bisque piece and things flaking off and rope ties or elastics not doing their jobs, what do you do? Post it online and hope the high bidder is into doll repair? Help me out here; I'm a little ignorant in this area. Though I respect the genre of antiques, I have the unfair disadvantage of being a guy.

I do doll restoration & I'll be glad to help you with any questions that you have. For the most part restringing of the elastic is a simple repair and there are a lot of simple things that can be done to make freshen a doll up so that it looks better for displaying and reselling purposes. I would not personally do any extensive repair to a doll that was to be resold. If repairs are done you should always disclose what was done.
