My husband

My wonderful husband Gary passed away on Feb 22nd, just 2 weeks after we had started to settle in to our new home. He was the kindest, gentlest, most intelligent man I've ever known and I miss him dearly. I will attempt to get my life, interests, and collections back in order sometime, but it's not going to happen just yet.

Traveling, Shopping, More Traveling, More Shopping

I have been ridiculously derelict in my on-line duties, including IAO, and for that I apologize. My husband and I are on the road with the rv. We don't subscribe to a wireless internet service, preferring instead to only have internet when staying at a campground that offers it. And a lot of this trip has been spent in national and state parks and forests - so no wi-fi. And that's a good thing sometimes. We've spent a lot of traveling time looking at property and a lot of time doing my favorite… Continue

$5 Deal of the Day

I wasn't even going to go to any garage sales today. I have work to do here at the house, and the weather was crappy this morning. But...it's Saturday, and there's ritual and habits to consider...so I told myself I would go for just a little bit. Maybe hit a couple of places and call it good. I checked Craigslist...church sale two neighborhoods away. Good. That's close to my favorite thrift store. I can kill two birds with one stone. I tell my husband I have my cell, and not to worry, I won't… Continue

My Mission

Currently, I'm buying, not selling. With the economy being what it is, it's not a bad time to be a buyer. I'm finding some great pieces and great prices. But the economy isn't why I quit selling.

So why do I keep buying? Because I can, I want to, and at a point in the near future I'll go back to selling full time.

Right now we're in the process of preparing to move.

No, we haven't bought a house yet, but we will (it's also a fairly good time to buy a house), and… Continue

Great MCM Kitchen Designs Slideshow

This slideshow is full of great kitchen designs from the 50's and 60's. Anyone looking for any mid century decorating ideas has got to take a look. http://flickr.com/photos/10197266@N05/sets/72157608506908174/
I recommend the full screen slide show. So much eye candy...just makes me drool!

New Electricals Group!

A new group with the tongue twisting title of Eclectic Electrical Collectibles Group is ...(wait for it)...drum roll...UP and RUNNING.

Anyone interested in electrical household devices should drop in and join the discussion. We're not limited to just small (or large) kitchen appliances, but of course those are MY first loves...but we want to explore the explosive world of old-time electrics...clocks to toasters...oddities to rarities....

Everyone has a… Continue

Small Town Big War, WWI, The War to End All Wars

My husband Gary has a great site called "Small-Town-Big-War" featuring the nearly 200 letters written by his grandfather during WWI, the "War to End All Wars". That part didn't turn out, but nonetheless the war was fought on the largest scale ever conceived at the time. In the small town where he and many of his fellow soldiers were from, one in six people had enlisted for the war effort. The letters tell the story of a scared but courageous young man from enlistment to triumphant return.… Continue

$403.99 - FOR A TOASTER! Where are these buyers when I'm selling?

I mentioned in my earlier post that I want to one day find a Sunbeam T-1 toaster to add to my collection. I've actually passed on that opportunity a couple of times since I could usually find one for a fairly good price and I'm in no hurry. And then this auction on Ebay ended today.

If that doesn't work, try looking it up with the item number.

Yep,… Continue

Kitchen Appliance Photos Added

My latest album shows off my Sunbeam mixers and a few other kitchen appliances. I'll be adding more as I go. What's not pictured yet is my toaster collection. I'm a fan of Sunbeam toasters. I like a few others, too, but the Sunbeam models are without a doubt my favorites. I have a beautiful T-9, a T-20, T-35, VT-40 (this is our regular toaster) and a few others. I'm looking to add a T-1 to the collection soon. I've already bought the undertray that it will sit on. I bought that on ebay from… Continue

New Photos!

I've uploaded a few photos that I had of the pieces that are in storage right now. We're doing some work on the house and some of my collection has had to be stored for the moment. These are not the greatest photos since I only took them for identification purposes, but they're what I have until my "stuff" comes home. These are a very small part of my chrome collection - I have Chase, of course, Glo Hill, most of the small appliance makers which would include the toasters, mixers, and blenders.… Continue
