Favorite Vintage Jewelry Doesn't Have To Match...

Sometimes the best vintage costume jewelry is not the most expensive, or a set, for that matter. It's the pieces we luv, and that catch our imagination! One of the eras that captures my imagination is the 'Roaring '20's'!

Two of these pieces may be from the 1920's, as they sure look old enough to be from a 'flapper'...the brass / bakelite bangle, and the long green beaded necklace. The green / blue beaded earrings, I am guessing to be from the 1940's, but this 'set' of three that I have put… Continue

Vintage home decor forever timeless

Although style trends change from year to year , antiques to vintage have survived the test of time. Family heirlooms are still cherished for the treasures they are. The fact that a family has passed an item down from generation to generation has always been a tradition and one that never fails to touch my heart. The collector is still actively collecting even in this slow ecomony , only not as actively as before. But, you can view the auction sites and see that collectors are holding onto… Continue

Antiques at Halloween Time

It's time to grab your antique Halloween pieces and create a display that will be unique and eye catching. You can add to your antique Halloween pieces, other Halloween related pieces such as cats, owls, anything with a pumpkin, and much more. Just be creative and allow yourself to create a display that is unlike the typical Halloween decoration. The antique shops are a good source for early holiday pieces, so get out there and search for those one of kind pieces.…

Background Displays Catch The Eye!

When listing vintage / antique items for sale on your website, or online booth, or shop, the photos are extremely important! You want to attract the customer's attention...catch the eye!

Backgrounds and displays can be used to enhance your item, and correct the lighting for the photo. Vintage jewelry, especially with rhinestones, or vintage china and porcelain, can create glare. Your background setting will help correct this. Remember that white backgrounds reflect light, and black… Continue

The Benefits of Owning a Jewelers Loupe...

I had put off buying a jewelers loupe for quite sometime, but finally I did go to a gold and gem shop that sold them. I found the loupes to be very inexpensive; mine was only $18.00 + tax.

Since then I have used it constantly at estate sales, collectible malls, and rechecking my own collection of vintage costume jewelry. The print on top of the jewelers loupe is wearing off...I have used it so often! I'm pretty sure it was 10x magnification. The shopkeeper had said that was the strongest I… Continue

Antique, reproduction & solid wood furniture industry trends & outlook for 2010-2011

Chat with any “old school buyer” of Chinese antiques about the late eighties/early nineties and stories of 200 RMB rosewood tables and Ming dynasty porcelain for a few hundred RMB will bubble quickly to the surface. In recent

times, this period might be considered the modern birth of the industry,

with…

Winding Down August. Kicking off September.

Our last auction featured a complete estate and WOW was it an excellent sale! There weren't a ton of actual antiques, but the retail crowd showed up in droves and drove the prices through the roof on everything from toys to furniture, pottery, paintings, and more.

The most surprising part of the auction for us was how well the furniture sold. For some time now, trying to sell furniture for what it used to bring has been like kicking a dead horse- not much action happening.…
