The word armada comes from the Portuguese and Spanish word for naval fleet. Fleet meaning a large formation of warships, at sea the direct equivalent is an army on land.
You’re probably wondering how this translation ‘naval fleet’ links to a silver dish? Good question, well the relevance to these silver dishes today is in fact the history hidden behind them.…Continue

Ask any antiques connoisseur in the Greater Houston area about Claudia Camp and you’re bound to get the same response. “She’s got great taste”, “She’s got a great eye”, “She really knows her antiques”. (They might also mention that her smile is like a beam of sunshine!)
We couldn’t agree more. Claudia’s seasoned point of view – more than 25 years of experience – captured our attention almost immediately after we touched down in Houston earlier this year. We invited her (read: begged…Continue

Based on our experience working and shopping at antiques fairs, plus tips we’ve been given by fair-goers and our partners in antiques, we thought we'd have a little fun, and share 5 essential tips for shopping at vintage, antiques, and other trade fairs! :)
1. Get there early. Check on entry fees and opening times (sometimes prices vary), and get there when the true pickers arrive for a chance to see the best items and bargain before others arrive. And remember- if…Continue
For vintage and antique pieces without provenance, it can be tricky to know what an acceptable price range is. Luckily, our co-founder, Xing, happens to have a pretty great pricing-guide built into the back of his head (honed from his years of scouting, buying and selling all over the world!).
Recently, we picked Xing's brain about the value of dining chairs. Here's what he had to say.…Continue

The brooch in definitely not a thing of the past, here at AC Silver we are determined to show you how to make the most of yours.
The most famous brooch wearer in Britain has got to be Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Yet again she did us proud on a recent visit to Ireland in 2011, where no day was complete without a new brooch. It seems that Kate Middleton, The Duchess of Cambridge, is…Continue

Hi all, I have the wacky notion to organize our 5-6 best shops in our small berg here in FL to put on a quality antiques show. We have one sponsored at our museum but the promoter excludes local dealers with the illogic of 'who would pay $20 to see thing they can see for free?'. He really wants to segregate locals from undermining his out-of-towner show. And many dealer's are only from 1-2 hours away so to us, they are competition in our small (18000 pop.) town considering the annual amount…Continue

Some days I can be such a b*ch. I don't mean to be but being around some people just brings it out of me.
For instance, I've been an online auction seller since 1998 and got serious about it around 2011, going to work for a consignment shop. I have sold literally hundreds if not thousands of items online. Yet, working for a different shop, someone there gets under my skin. It's not the owner, who has faith in my knowledge, but a friend of his that is…Continue

One type of heavy, leaded, cut glass that has fine, great details (multi-faceted) and has geometric patterns and prisms is called brilliant cut glass .
The Brilliant period lasted from 1876 to 1914. Most of this early glass was produced in the European countries such as England, Ireland and France. When it was being produced in America it was called American Brilliant glass. This glass had high oxide content which gave the glass added sparkle. It had the ability to reflect brilliant…Continue
