Hi Anne, Any particular reason you think the soldier is French? Looks more like a Grenadier Guardsman (UK) to me. Sue

Hi there, I really know next to nothing about silver/silverplate, unless it's jewelry :) so sorry! can't help with valuation. Perhaps someone else here can help with that. Best of luck! Sue

Karen, Here's what I can tell you. It is silverplate not silver, big difference. The Hartford silverplate Co. was in existence from 1822-1894 in Hartford, Ct. From looking at other similar items, I believe you have a water dispenser/tipper, not a ...

Hi Brian, I can't really give you anything except that it is a vending item from Japan. I remember seeing a documentary from Japan that shoeed vendors on bicycles with these stacked up for dispensing. Sue

Hi Karen, Nice piece - does it have any marks or lettering anywhere? These will be very helpful in trying to age/value the piece. Sue

The Coro piece is higher quality Coro with the Pegasus, probably from the 50s'. Cowboy - is he plastic?? could be 40/50s'. The Deco design bracelet is I think from the 40s'. Charm bracelets - come & go in popularity. The first one is very sturdy, ...

Cathe started up in the early 60's - produced 'vintage look' jewelry, per online reasources. They have made some very good looking stuff. You and I have gone around about price before :0) - so my guesstimate would be around $30.00!

Hi Diane, This certainly looks very similar to the piece you found. Hard to tell if the border is gold plated from pix, but certainly possible. I have to confess I know very little about American painted porcelain, but I'm sure someone here knows :)

Sue, There is a collection of Philippine Santos currently being offered on ebay by one seller. The seller has included some great information and a photo of a 1967 Manilla Times news article concerning these items. Do a search in ebay for either o...

Coincidentally, at just about the same time these pieces were acquired, about fifty years ago now, I recall seeing examples of these Philippine figures displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Back then, as a teenager, I lived...

These icons were given to Maureens' mother back in the 60s'. At that time she was living in Okinawa, Japan. The statues come from the Phillipines, so how they made their way to Japan is a mystery. They are alleged to be 150-200 years old. St. Bar...

Grange Antique Show

Hello everyone,
The 'Rainbow Junction' annual antique show drew a steady stream of people into Penn Yan this past Saturday. The weather was perfect for the occasion. Money of course, is tight for many people, so some dealers did not do as well as they would have liked, others did o.k. no-one got to retire on the proceeds!!
This was only our second year there, but it has become almost a family event. We caught up with dealers we haven't seen since last year, so spent the idle minutes gossiping an… Continue

Crazy May!

So starts the season.......we do this every year and swear we won't do it again!! We have 3 shows scheduled for May - crazy or what? Still, every little helps right?
First show was yesterday. We did as well as we did last year, so ....given the economy we take this as a positive sign. There was an article in 'Antique Weekly' which said that people will continue to invest in antiques/vintage. Maybe this will hold true for us also! fingers crossed.
Next show is 'at home' so we have to re-arrange t… Continue

New breed in town??

Good evening everyone,
We went to auction this week - what an odd day it turned out to be!!! First, we headed to the 'backroom' for the so-called 'junk' jewelry. Some very nice pieces - Trifari, Coro Duette etc. Several 'newbies' in the room........bidding went out of sight!! New people bidding tooo mucho dinero for items. Much too rich for our blood, so. somewhat disappointed/disgusted, we headed to the 'frontroom' for finer jewelry.
Several trays of older, very well worked ivory necklaces etc.… Continue

Hi Sue, Thank you for the tip! It sounds great! I have an old Kodak with the darn software that is a nightmare - I need to send out and print all my family photos then, remove the whole thing before I can use a new camera - It's like Kodak did this on purpose to keep people tied to them - a real Pain!

Sorry to hear about your cat. I miss my Guilianna who looked just like yours. We were in the process of moving to our new home and she just freaked out and ran away. She simply couldn't adjust. We are located approx. one hour and fifteen minutes from NYC on Long Island. Rita @ TesoroFino.com
