Hi, what you have is a "folding bed" or a "pocket bed". It probably came out of a studio apartment built around 1880-1930s. "Google Patents" has hundreds of patents on folding beds; you might wish to search them for your particular bed and its histo…

This looks a lot like a 19th century "camp bed". During those times, and earlier, it was thought to be healthful to sleep in a some what upright position. It seems to me Winterthur has one in their collection.
