"I know dolphins don't actually have scales but the Asian auspicious creature known as a dolphin does so worth a search :-)"

"Looks like ormolu.  Try a google image search on "antique furniture ormolu" and see if it makes sense.Might they fit together like so?  Where the thick line is the opening of a pair of cabinet doors."

"Dolphins come up too, but dolphins are mammals, and don't have scales. Sea Serpents do.  Whatever it is, both are marine animals indicating nautical use. As for the metal, it's probably spelter which is a mixture of metals, maybe…"

"I would call the creatures dolphins. If you do a google image search for ormolu dolphins it should bring up very similar animals."

"I have seen many raised push plates, especially the art nouveau style ones but I agree that these are particularly decorated. Maybe they are just bits of decorative ormolu type trim from a piece of furniture or picture frame of some description then."

"Tom, thanks for your input.  I did test and they are not magnetic. I scratched the surface of the back and it looks silvery underneath. What could it be that isn't magnetic?"

"The animal is called a "sea serpent", much used in mid to late 1800s in brass decoration. I would guess these were side plates around a missing key lock plate, or escutcheon, on a door, possibly the Captain's door on a ship. You might…"

"I would think door push plates would be flat - the design on these is raised."

What are these decorative cast metal things?

I have four of these pieces - looks like two pairs. They measure about 12" x 2.5" and are some kind of cast metal (too heavy for aluminum), which appears to be copper plated and then gilded or painted. The design looks like a fish or mermaid's tail. They have holes in them for attaching to something. Any help would be much appreciated!See More

"I can't see reproducing an ink bottle. They're not worth much and are not rare. I think it's vintage (over 20yrs) or antique (over 100yrs).  Molded glass has been around many years."

Deal Roly Poly Lamp

I don't know what else to call this lamp, other than "Roly Poly". It has a rounded, weighted bottom, so that if you knock it over, it rights itself. The cord and plug indicate that it is old. The only marking I can find is on the knob which has the name "DEAL". To make it even more unusual, the brass part above the glass is a bell. I could not find any information on a lamp manufacturer with the name Deal, and would love to know what this lamp is all about. Is it meant to be used on a train, or…See More
