Amazing Way to Restore a Faded Amber Pendant

I've owned this beautiful Sterling Silver and Amber pendant necklace for at least 12 years; I purchased this in a consignment store in city where I live and love its' design.  A friend of the store's owner was then working the jewelry counter and she told me that she found this in England.  I was once attending the large Dulles Antiques Show in Virginia and an 80 year old woman antique collector saw this and told me that is was likely of Navajo origin.  I wear this every day and in the last…See More

Elephant Mother and her Brood; Thrift Store Find July 8, 2017

I found this very heavy exquisite elephants figurine in my local Salvation Army store several weeks ago and it has a matching decorative circular base. It depicts an elephant mother with her family of young elephants gathered around her. I'm not certain about the material used to make this; there is no maker's mark on the base. This measures approximately 5" high including the base and the base itself measures 5" in diameter. Any thoughts? I'll likely spend some time browsing the Internet to…See More

Turquoise Chips and Sterling Silver Necklace with 12 Sterling Beads and Maker's Mark

I purchased this exquisite well made necklace from one of the many local thrift shops and consignment stores in Northern Virginia; back then I didn't always write down the price that I'd paid for items like this but if I had to guess I'd say around $27.00.  As you can see this has a variety of beautiful polished turquoise chips with round turquoise spacers in between them; both clasps are nicely engraved "Sterling" with a maker's hallmark.  I believe that I likely searched for this mark and…See More

My Childrens' Toy Musk Ox was Sold to Another Thrift Store Client

I yesterday went to a thrift store that I used to visit several years ago. The store was very busy with clients on a Sunday and I spent a long time looking thru lots of collectibles.  The only things I found were a very clean used childrens' Musk Ox toy that had a baby Ox on top and a Yamaha Baroque Alto recorder.  The Musk Ox was large and I asked the cashier to hold it for me.  I later walked to the cashier and went to pay for both when I sadly found out that they'd sold my Musk Ox to…

Buying and Collecting Orrefors Swedish Art Glass

My glass collection began surprisingly enough with an award offered by the Acura dealer where I used to work; our employees had a choice of 5-6 different items such as watches, a camera, a personal radio, jewelry and a Lancelot large crystal bowl from Orrefors.  Of the roughly 110 employees at the dealership I was the only one to select the Orrefors Lancelot bowl.  It is a magnificent and beautiful design by Erika Lagerbielke; over the years I've amassed a large collection of Orrefors…

Are You a Collector or a Hoarder? How YouTube Videos Turned My Guilt Into Happiness

I've always been a collector but began seriously collecting when I was in my 30's.  I am now 67 and have amassed a variety of collectibles.  When I was very young my parents would not let me own a knife; when I became an adult I truly enjoyed being able to buy any type of knife that I wished.  I now own a collection of antique knife-tool sets, mostly German and some American, a comprehensive collection of vintage Imperial and Colonial American knives and a small…

eBay Feedback Score Modification -- Help for Sellers with Negative Feedback

I'd been on eBay for at least 9 years, had only one negative feedback from a buyer about a year ago; it took  me a full year to have my score move from 97 up to 98.9.  A member's eBay feedback score is supposed to be calculated based on the prior 12 month period, however 12 months had passed and the one negative feedback was still affecting my score.  I assumed that the one negative would automatically be deleted after a year however it remained in place.  I called eBay customer support…
