About Me
My passion is collecting all things vintage.
I guess my love for aprons, tablecloths, enamelware and vanity items really stemmed from watching my favorite television show "The Waltons."
For whatever reason, I have been bitten by the collecting bug and suffer wonderfully with the fever!
My real name is Kym, but I have a bunch of aka's such as CalicoKym, where I have a booth at Bonanzle and my user name at the Vintage Village.
My newest alias is the Vintage Hen, a name that I think suits me best.
I grew up in a family of 8 in a very, very small town with a population of 400.
I had a wonderful childhood that's for sure.
We didn't have much in the way of material things but we had so much fun growing up.(mud pies don't taste all that bad) With two brothers and three sisters life for me was anything but boring.
I have been married to my childhood sweetheart for 27 years and we have two beautiful daughters and one adorable granddaughter.
My hubby is a skilled leather worker and repairs antique saddles.
Waitressing was my career for nearly 16 years but for the past 4 years I spent an amazing time as a feature writer for a small regional newspaper.
Writing was my dream job but unfortunately the paper sold to new owners and I along with the rest of the staff were laid off this past January and have not been called back.
While I wait for that "next big break" I dabble in selling some of my vintage collectibles.
Warning: Now that I have found this fantastic site I may never shut up!

Well I went back to my original persona; Calico Kym,

It's me Kymberly.
I have decided to go back to my original avatar and user name since that is how I started out here and Calico Kym is how I am recognized.
Besides I really love the little girl and her baby kitten.
I love and collect all kinds of vintage stuff from aprons and cookbooks to pretty dishes and holiday collectibles.
My main passions are garage and estate sales, hanging out for hours in secondhand shops and used book stores.
But the real true loves in my life are my two girls and my first grandchild Ada Grace and if course my two fur babies, Lucy and Mittens, the house cats who own me.

I tend to have a bad habit of changing things around, like my furniture, although I am getting too old to do much of that so I guess I make up for it by changing my blogs and avatars and such.

The only thing I haven't even attempted to try and change is my collecting habits, they are just as eclectic as the day I first started collecting nearly 30 years ago.

Vintage Advertising

A new antiques, collectibles, and crafts mini-mall just opened in my town last month, so I had to check it out.

I don't normally get into the craft thing but I do like some of the stuff that is made from salvaged pieces from old buildings.
Anyhow, the new mall is called Hill Top Antiques and Crafts and I found one vendor had several Saturday Evening Post magazines from 1943.
I came home with the August issue.
I plan to mat and frame some of the colorful ads to decorate my kitchen and thought ab… Continue

A collection of cookbooks feeds the soul

When the holidays roll around, and it’s time to start digging out all my favorite family recipes, I am always surprised to discover all the cookbooks I have gathered through the years.
What started as a way for me to learn some much-needed kitchen skills boiled down to a collection… Continue

Bits and pieces of my collective life................

Inheritating the "junkin" fever
I guess I must have been about ten years old when I first spied a hodge-podge of interesting stuff in the window of a secondhand store in my hometown of Sharpsburg, KY.
This was the first secondhand store I had ever seen and something deep inside my soul told I must go in and look around.
It was that very day that I discovered why my daddy loved to go "junkin" and I realized I had inherited the same passion for treasure hunting.
Old dolls, books a

I grew up in Jessamine County, just about 20" south of Lexington ( at least it used to be, it's now more of a metro area). I am loving all the networking that goes on in .ning! I don't feel so along any more in my love of vintage! I have very few friends in the antique world where I live.

Hi Kym! 'Long time no see! LOL I'm pooped with working at the hospital, and I've only listed a few things lately on etsy and bonanzle. I hope to list some tonight after I have a nap. I worked 11-7 last night and haven't gone to bed yet! I hope everything is OK with you! :O)
