I've always been sentimental about old things. I enjoyed hearing about the old days from my great grandmother and from my grandparents. I also began to admire fashions, furnishings, and styles of former decades through my love of old movies.

My friend and I began traveling to the highway 127 sale and to other similar events each summer. We purchased so much for our personal collections that people began to ask us if we had a shop, so eventually, we opened a booth in a local antique mall. We love it. Most of what I collect is from the mid-century modern era. The booth, however, also has items from the Art Deco period and also the Victorian era. I also love upcycling furniture. The booth features furniture, bar ware, textiles, home decor accessories, books (mostly cookbooks and coffee table books), items specific to the Chicago area, pottery, specialty serving pieces, record albums, jewelry, formal wear, firs, hats, and more. We maintain a Facebook page and an Instagram account in the name of the shop (Kim and Karen's Patio), which is at Out of the Attic Antiques in Aurora, IL.
