"yes Sherry its about 4 ounces in weight, one piece sits perfectly onto the other. It is about 1 and 3/4 inches high, just over 3 inches wide. Rough estimate. And it looks like a box for powder of trinkets as you say. So work your magic Sherry ans…"

"John, in the future DO NOT USE LINKS.  Use the Light blue square icon  for Images.  Also, it's easier for you to take upright pictures than it is for everybody to lie on their side to see the image rightside up!"

"oh well I guess its a classic case of let the buyer beware. I was told it was circa 1800 when I bought it and I paid with around $70 for it. I still like it though. Thanks wil/ tom. Oh any idea as to value and use?"

"Japanese writing is read right to left; top to bottom.  On the object with the parrot the 2 characters on the right side read Made in and Nippon (Japan).  "Made in" looks like an upside down Y with a cross, and "Nippon"…"

"Thanks. I did a bit of research before posting this and heres what I found out (a) That the drawings on the inside are simialr to 18th or 19th century drawings . I do not see a simialr style in later drawings. (b) I cannot find one single item…"

"You say it comes apart?  Being what it is can it go together in other "positions" and if separated is anything exposed?  I'm not asking for pictures, just a verbal answer... Is it ivory, jade, jadeite or soapstone?"

"No none that I can see. There is a tiny mark on each foot but it may be part of the carving. "
