The painting somewhat brings to mind the work of Margaret Keane, the American illustrator who popularized those paintings of doe-eyed children in the 1960's and 70's. She had many imitators and this is what I suspect you have. Also, Japanese anime c…

James, I have seen this style before, same artist I'm sure. Can't help you with the name, but I believe they may have been painted in France, probably no earlier than the 70's. Have you poster this under Whadja find? Someone will know something ther…

Hello James, I suspect the pat. # refers to the actual frame, so if the frame & pic. where from the same era you would have an approximate date. Try the U.S. patent office research page. Can't remember the actual e-mail address, so just Google 'U.S.…

James, Your painting has a large "A" on the back, guess why?
It too is a hallmark indication the actual year (period) inwhich the painting was actually painted. What does it say about the year or period is concealed by the "A"
code which stands usually for a period of 20 years in some cases.
The would turn to "B" only after 20 year expire. The period "C" ended near 1901.
This fact places your picture at or near 1835.
My research show that Gerard Dou returned to his native country during that year.
If you compare this picture to Dou's early paintings early in his career, you will find that it compare favorable to it.

James, I need you to take a close look a the large bold alph-numetric writing on the back of the picture and construct these letters and number in the order as they are written but put the lettering in its complete form on a sheet of construction paper using a black magic marker.

There a snake shaped marking on the bac of the picture, please look very closely at the big or very small details on the back of the painting.

Tom we will search some of Dou paints to see how many of his picture were taken in that window. We are trying to determine more about why some of his paints did not have any window framing.
Got some real good news!
