Hi Diane, I would like to welcome new folks too! And I have a confession - At the last appraisal fair I did, I saw two really awesome old quilts - One I think was 1940's and the pink was screamming at me - LOL! The second one though, Oh My! I thin...

What you normally have to do is to take the paint completely off and start all over again. What is actually coming up is the thick layers of paint. Take it all off, fill in any holes, seal and repaint.

Hi Ellene! Thanks for your reply! I think my cup and saucer sets were about $20.00 to $25.00 per set, when I had them for sale in the antique store. Hopefully interest will be 'up' when I list them. They are the CA ones too.

Diane McQueen added a discussion to the group Antique and Collectible Dolls
I have a pair of dutch boy/girl composition dolls, one girl doll with braided hair, and now a 25" baby doll. I'm guessing they are all around the 1920's to '30's in age. I need to repair the cracks and open areas in the composition. Is anyone here...

Hi Karen! I had never seen any sample aprons until you posted yours now. They are really cool! Did you find them in one place? I know collectors are sometimes paying high prices for sample furniture, and sundry vintage or antique items.

At long last vacation time for me, but I can't leave those antique malls alone! :O)

It's been ages since I've been on the blog...I know I'm just terrible! I was at the point of computer overload! LOL All work and very little 'play' made me a very grumpy gal!
My hubby and I are in Houston, Tx., staying three nights at the Hyatt Place Hotel; tonight's our last night. :O( I'm using the hotel PC to blog. (We'll be coming back here again, as we were treated like royalty! It's a three star hotel, but the staff are super nice! My hubby luvs the HD channels on the wide screen T.V. It's… Continue

'Going Green' With Estate Sales...

I'm finding myself wanting to expand on comments I'm leaving on friends' blogs today!
I find that there are more people attending estate sales, and the line ups are horrendous!!! More people are watching their money, so it isn't just antique 'pickers' like myself who are attending. More people are furnishing their homes with vintage.
Due to the economy, I think more people are 'going green' without realizing it. For example, I've seen a young couple looking for furniture for their apartment, and… Continue

My Handmade Vintage Jewelled Photo Frames ~ Beautiful & Sparkling! They Can Be Yours To Treasure!

Recently, I have been getting back to my 'crafty' side! I have started creating my Vintage Jewelled Photo Frames. These first two vintage wooden frames came from a local estate sale. I found them during one of my treasure hunts! One of them has a photo of a very young Robert Taylor, who was a prevalent leading man in the motion picture industry. The photo of him in the one frame, appears to be from the late 1930's to 1940's.
The other picture frame was empty, so I printed the image of a vintage… Continue

Hey Diane, I hope the funeral was not too traumatic for you. You take care. I mostly collect hand-textile tools and only collect 5 actual, very specific, textile categories: aprons that were meant to be worn while doing needlework, sewing machine stitch-sample mini-aprons, crochet samplers, hankies/scarves with sewing themes, and sewing machine scarves for treadle sewing machines. I am not sure what you mean by weaving machine spool. I assume you mean the (usually) large spools used by industrial weaving machines, although sometimes spools are used in handweaving. I do not know a lot about either type, but I have a few and I have a book on industrial spools. However, if I remember correctly, the book is NOT very comprehensive. You said you would list it on your website, do you mean here? Or do you have a separate website? You may not be able to date it, but if we can determine what mill used the spool you may be able to learn more. Are there any markings on the spool? Once I see a picture I will tell you if I can tell you anything about the spool. Regards, Karen

Dianne....Most interested in reference material...recently purchased "Fabulous Barkcloth",Loretta smith-fehling which was fun to look through but is basically a pictorial no real information. I dont have a website...selling at antique mall. I havent placed any of my barkcloth though because I wanted to do some research first. I know there isnt a master list somewhere that has THE price but Im running across such contradictory information and such wide range of prices at different selling sites. Its hard to let go of it anyway...so.....long story short yes by all means send info my way!....have a wonderful peaceful Sunday!
