Dan replied to Craighead House's discussion What is this? in the group Lighting Antique and Vintage
"Maybe some heat from a propane torch (or the kitchen stove if you don't have access to a torch) then beat on it.  Or using files and wire brushes, you could  clean the original ring and laying it down on a  brick or some fire…"

Who is this guy?

Need help in identifying this guy.Large portrait of a director, or cinematographer.  It is an actual photo.  18x24 inches. The camera behind him is a Mitchell BNC used from the 1930's to the 1970's.  My intuition thinks the photo is from the 60's or 70's?  Anyone know who this might be?ThanksSee More

Dan replied to Ashley Lamere's discussion Any idea about these lamps? in the group Lighting Antique and Vintage
"Post a picture of the socket.  You can tell the age, country of origin and many times maker by the socket.  Make sure to show details of the inside, any markings on it etc.   Also show the base of the lamp.  Is it spelter, or…"

Dan replied to Jamye Spence Freeman's discussion Vintage Underwriters Lights in the group Lighting Antique and Vintage
"Underwriters laboratory does not make lamps or parts. They are a testing  agency, for insurance purposes (long sketchy  history). Good way to date a lamp is to look at the socket The threaded liner is aluminum, which dates it to roughly…"

Dan replied to Stephanie Coreia's discussion OLD HOTDOG CART PIGGY BANK in the group SELL MY ANTIQUES
"Cast iron banks are always difficult.  They were heavily reproduced in the 1960's thorough the 1990's (and later) in Asian countries, and sold very cheaply. They have little value other than decorative.  One notable exception is…"
