silver mark help

I have looked at makers' marks and silver marks until I am cross-eyed, and can't find any clues to the article in the inclosed photo. What we can see with a loop is tiny crown, then a lion running facing right (all others face left) then sterling, 4 0 8. Its origin was probably Canada. This little vanity jar (?) is less than 2" tall and less than 1 1/2" wide. On the top is very intricate tooled scroll work and an ingraved initial we think might be a Q or an A. My neighbor has brought me several, assorted sterling and plated pieces to help her find out what some of them might be worth. Like so many folks these days, she is in need of money more than fine things she has held onto. My project today is to find out more about a silver tea/coffee service with tray marked 42, 1881 Rogers Canada, #7377.
