Hey Barbara, well what I can tell you about the chair is that its called a shield back chair. These were originally made during the Federal period in the Hepplewhite style. The period pieces were made between I'd say the 1790's to the first decade of 1800. My chair is in fact period. Due to the amount of wear on the chair, the way it was constructed, and the tools used to make it, I can be confident that it is authentic.
