"Thanks Meryl! I had done some research and I found all different words around "depose" and wasn't sure why, now I do! :) Thanks! Do you know if that's a clue at all to its age? I couldn't find anything related to it."

Locket Identification Help - Depose?

Hi all! :) This is the first silver locket I've purchased for myself, as I usually collect gold filled ones. I was wondering if anyone had any information on it - I'd love to learn more about it! I wasn't sure of the marking, depose. And also it has a small hallmark on the bale (though I can't decipher it). I was guessing French, but I'm not sure of age or really anything! (I couldn't fit the photo of the back, but it is flat and plain silver with no markings) See More

About Me
I absolutely love antique jewelry! I love learning more about it from others who love it as well. I'm a beginner collector but I am constantly fascinated!

I would love to know more on some of the pieces I have, so if you know something please let me know!

Right now I mostly collect lockets and cameos. I also love Victorian and Art Nouveau pieces in general. I particularly love the lockets and cameos because they are so cherished, mysterious, and have a very romantic quality about them. And I always wonder who must have worn them!

I am very new to this site so I apologize in advance if I am doing something incorrect! Let me know if I can fix anything. Thanks!

Hi Anne,
The only reason I know about the backing is from having them out of their frames at one time or another, But i can not be possitive this is the case for your cameo.
yes all are carved...
here is another site I found in the mean time..

Hi Anne,
The locket is spectacular! I will go thru the boxes and try to find the right one, maybe we can come up with an insert from another box to fit, I did not try to collect boxes, it just sort of ened up that way, they are almost as intriging as the jewels..Although some of my favorites are ring boxes. And you never Know when you may need one,
I will be back in a few days with hopefully the right one

Hi Anne,
Trying searching vintage / antique jewelry gift box,
Do you want one with an indent for the locket or just a plain flat interior? Exact size?
I will go thru my stash this weekend

Thanks Anne- I love decorating just about as much as I love collecting antiques so I've had a passion about combining my two loves. My first instinct, when I see something that I love, is to try to figure out a way to display it so I can see it often. It really makes your home unique and puts your signature on your place. I'm glad you appreciated some of my ideas and I welcome ideas from others. Have a wonderful day!

Also - I have some single enamel flower pins (costume jewelry) that I put one each on old aged butter pats to add to spring table center displays and it has the look of lily pads.

A porcelain hand to drape some old pearls, and if you have a vanity that has anything you can hang stuff on, works well. Also - just casually laying them on a mirrored tray on a vanity top is nice. Old pearls and rhinestones add a romantic decorating touch when it's time to creating a valentine display....so when that time comes around...grab all your romantic jewelry and add some old Victorian Valentines and have fun.

I just meant that some people actually use jewelry in decorating a room such as a frilly guest room or something. I like to use rhinestone jewelry and old pearls strung & hung around my victorian lady theme guest room.
