i know very very little about this antique iron fireback. it has the year 1685 on it, i am assuming that is the date. i am told the image is very close to the Arms of Luxembourg. this was remarkably found in a used van we bought for parts to use on our own van. as it turned out the van ran and all it needed was a tune up so i was cleaning out the interior and had a carpet cleaner. my husband opened the rear divided doors and discovered something under the back seats. he ran to get me to help pull it out! well long story short, this thing was amazingly heavy and appeared to be stuck to the carpet face down. we were finally able to "peal" it off of the carpet and were astounded to see this beautiful fireback. which brings me to this question... where did this come from? is it REALLY from 1685? what is the origin? what could this be worth in present condition?
