Morning Tom, the dark portion is black, the background for the design is a light gray but it's rough and the designs are silver. I'll take some more photos later today of the designs and post.
The decoration around the band looks almost like Farsi, the language of Turkey, Persia, Afganistan, etc.
I can't see all of the designs, but the one that looks like a 6 on its side with 2 diamonds looks like the letter for "qaf". You might take a look at it.
It's difficult to tell the color. What color is it?
I've posted these photos in other glass groups including Glass Hounds but never tried here. I bought these two sets last year sometime in a little antique store. The owner said they were sold to her by a man who said he bought them in Persia while stationed there when he was in the service. So far they're still unidentified, I've even sent photos to museums. Maybe someone here will recognize them. The first of the two sets are this decanter and five glasses
The other set is this large decanter and four glasses
I have more photos showing the bottoms of both styles of cups if needed.
