OK, so it's for a bicycle. But Craig's pic shows a wick, and a carbide light uses carbide chips and water which creates a gas which goes through a valve and is lit, creating light.  There wouldn't be a wick on a carbide lamp, would there?

Dianne, you have a brass or bronze tazza; most of them have a fancy glass insert that fits into it. Used primarily as a Centerpiece on a table.  It is not an egg holder...Link shows many different styles and values. http://www.antiquestorecollectibles.com/?s=Tazza+Bronze

Craig, I don't think your light is for a bicycle, but rather a small boat.  The red and green jewels probably illuminate when lit. At nighttime seeing the red running light (or the green) will tell you which way the boat is moving.  They are positioned on or near the bow (front) of the boat so you can tell where the front is too.  Modern boats likewise use red/green running lights.  The  stern light is white.

I'd guess a value around $300+ would be closer--but tis a guess.

so, is it glass, metal or ceramic, how tall?

Comment by DIANE PELL on July 21, 2014 at 2:33pm

Does anyone know what this is? I do believe it is a mini egg holder but what kind? The wording underneath is muted badly. Thanks!
