Guy Williams - you should post your query in the "whad ya find" group. Along with your photos. But, that said, these are generally for weighing fish, fresh catch type thing.

Hi all,

any ideas on what this scale was intended for?  Increments on one side go up to 350 and on the other side to 40.  The only writing I see is stamped GERMANY.

any information appreciated!

I think it looks more like Lopez.  Robert Lopez paints tiles and other ceramics, etc. Your tile although the theme is old, is modern.

BB, I found a terriffic website about WMF. It states that they began in 1880.

My info said they started in 1853 and that my Claret Jug was from 1858. "My info" was Guenter Staffa, of Cloppenburg, Germany in an e-mail dtd 6-21-2003. He was accumulating info for a forth-coming book at that time.

My pc is W.M.F.M.  The last M. stands for the base metal, brass, which is "messing" in German.  The dots or periods were used in the early days of their operation.  Beneath is "I/o" (the I is slanted same as the slash). That's an upper case "i", not a "1".

According to Guenter it "...refers to the thickness of the silver-plating; one gram deposited silver per square decimetre."
