Yes, there was. It was an early airport (1916) in Garden City, Long Island, NY. It was turned into a shopping mall in 1956. You can read about both the airport and shopping mall on Wikipedia.

If that's an original sign, I imagine it would be of considerable interest to collectors of aviation history memorabilia.

That's what I'm hoping for !!

Prior to putting this posting up, I did a google search of this location and nothing came up. I'll check Wikipedia as you suggested.

Charles Lindbergh had something to do with this school. There was a Roosevelt Field Aviation School in NY. I searched eBay and there are a few letters with this address to Charles Lindbergh. Good Luck in your search.
