I purchased this unusual folding pocket multi lens viewer which is made of horn. It folds up like a conventional magnifier or eyeglass. It has 6 separate sections with different coloured glass in each and one has a multi faceted clear glass. Being horn I thought it would most likely be pre 1920's and the lenses hint of photographic filters but I am not sure.    This is something I have not seen before and I would appreciate your opinions on the instrument..   Thanks   Steve Cole

to test for color blindness?

thanks Paula   Definitely a possibility    Cheers   Steve

Doesn't look like bone to me, maybe bakelite?  To test dip handle in hot (not boiling) water for 2-3 seconds. If it smells oily it's bakelite which is highly collected and more valuable.

Hi  Tom   I described the instrument as horn and have hot tested it, it is definitely horn.  Still haven't managed to confirm it's usage yet.... Cheers  Steve

Either this concept or for color blindness is my guess.
