Hi, I got this item in a box lot of jewelry at an auction.  I have done enough research to believe that this is 99% possibly a fake Thaler coin, but that is where I am stuck. I would like confirmation that the coin is a fake and not a restrike, etc.  Also any ideas of what the attachments mean and what this might be used for would be really appreciated.  Thanks!

I know nothing of thaler coins.
The wear pattern front to back is oddly inconsistent!
Like it was cast in on the front or something.

It is not a coin, it is referred to as an Austria Maria Theresa Token.

Often made into a piece of jewellery or left as fun collectable tokens, they have no monetary value as legal tender and go for around US$20.

Yours appears to be made into a decorative clip on brooch.

While made to look like an old, potentially valuable coin, these are still being made today.
