This item is up for auction at a local auction house and I'm trying to figure out what it is.

I've seen similar flag, so I was thinking it was a star family flag, but I've never seen one with a # on it, and two stars.

Flag measures approximately 72"

Few Questions:

72" x  ???.

How is flag posted or mounted? Grommets?  Pocket for pole or hanger?

Did the Auction House have any info on it?

Flag doesn't show up in any USA military or civilian flags, guidons, banners, or pennants. Number could be for recruit company, ships' company, etc.

Standard "Gold Star flag" is a gold colored star, centered in a square, white flag, hung inside a window. It is also called a "Mothers' Gold Star"

It represents one or two or more military deaths in family. "Gold Star" Flag is normally hung inside in a window.  To my knowledge none had numbers on them.

I have requested the width of the flag from the auction house.

Here are additional photos of the flag. I see grommets running vertically down the right side of the flag.

The grommets are on top.  It is not a flag, rather a banner to be hung on a window, wall or on a line suspended between two points. Thus "275" is upright as it should be.

Your new photos show the colors much better, red, white and blue.

Is the banner one-sided, or double sided?

72" W & 111" L

As you can read here, sometimes the flag represented a group of people (i.e. 275)

Good info Molly. Thanks!
