This rug is 6'x3" and in beautiful condition. I am the 3rd person to inherit it. It was a surprise and brought to me yesterday. The original owner (I never knew) traveled the world and bought many expensive things including paintings and furniture. that makes me think that this is a really good rug. What do you call it? What kind of rug? Anyway to date it? should we walk on it? I'm going to guess it is at least 30 years old if not vintage/ There is no tag anywhere perhaps initials worked in the lower left corner. There is some writing on one edge of the back side.
I think it is handwoven and perhaps done by a local artist of wherever they went. From the (many) tapestries and wall hangings I have been searching through, I have not seen one that has such a limited use of shading. The colors are more "matte"? Less definition, less diverse colorations...does that make sense? It does not diminish its beauty, but I am finding it difficult to find this style.
I, personally, would never walk on it, as it has kept its color and integrity for so long. Should someone know about well-known weavers, rug makers, or other such artisans, they will be much more helpful than me, most likely. It is a very nice piece, Beverly. You know I will probably keep thinking about it until someone finds you an answer!
it might have been a wall hanging
