LeeAnn, I wouldn't mess with it if I were you. Office chairs with a 4 point base will tip over when a person leans back to relax, and several have broken their necks and died. In the 1980s 4 point systems were outlawed as being unsafe. New office chairs have 5, 6, 7 or 8 points and are less apt to tip over.
Your chair is oak, probably made in first half of 20th Century. Some chair companies embedded a round, quarter-sized medallion in back on the edge of the seat. As is value is $5-15.00. If you sell it warn the buyer in writing about the tip-over possibility and have him/her sign it.
