Thanks for responding but I think this is kinda big for a flask, but then again, I'm not a drinker.

Several on-line advertise it as "old..." but I couldn't find out how "old" it is. Said to be an Old Boy Scout canteen. Yours is missing the green cloth holder that included a shoulder strap. The black underside of the lid is probably tin which doesn't react chemically with water and makes it safer, and tastier, to drink.

I thought Boy scout canteens had their spout positioned differently.

You're right, the NEW ones do.  The old ones had their spout like yours.

Look on line for "OLD Boy scout canteens". When it opens click Images, find yours.
